Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 16, 2026 · Effective: July 16, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Hey Hello Ltd. ("Hey", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares personal information when you use the Hey mobile application (the "App"). Please read it together with our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.

Hey is a location-based social application that helps people connect with others nearby across three modes - Dating, Social, and Network - through a proximity-based radar map.

Note on scope. Hey is currently offered only in Israel. This policy is written for that launch. If we later offer the App in other regions (for example, the EU/EEA, the UK, or the United States), we will publish an updated policy with the additional regional terms those laws require.

If you have any question about this policy or about how we handle your information, contact us at privacy@sayheynow.com.

2. A note on how Hey works

To do what it does, Hey needs to know where you are and who is near you, in close to real time. That means location is central to the service, not incidental. This policy is written to be clear about that, and about the less obvious things we do - such as analysing certain in-chat signals and computing internal quality indicators - so that nothing here surprises you later.

3. Information we collect

3.1 Information you give us

  • Phone number - used to create and secure your account. Hey signs you in using a one-time code sent by SMS. We do not use passwords, and we do not offer social login.
  • Profile information - your name, date of birth (used to confirm you are 18+ and to show your age), gender, height, and the photos you upload.
  • Optional profile details - depending on the mode(s) you use: bio and free-text fields; character traits, education, profession; whether you have or want children; lifestyle preferences (food, drink, activity); interests and hobbies; professional fields (Network mode); and your dating, social, or networking preferences (such as the age range or gender you are looking for).
  • Religion and religion preference (optional). If you choose to provide your religion or a religion preference for matching, we treat this as sensitive information and collect it only with your consent. You are never required to provide it, and you can leave these fields blank or remove them at any time.
  • Content you send - messages and any media you share in chats, and anything you submit to us through support or feedback forms.
  • Reports and blocks - if you report or block another user, we record that action and any reason or details you provide.

3.2 Information we collect automatically

  • Location.With your permission, we collect your device's location: as a one-time reading at certain points (for example, when you set up your profile or open the map), and continuously while the Hey map is open in the foreground, so the radar can update as you move. We do not track your location in the background when the App is closed. We store a history of your location readings so that map features and safety tooling work correctly. See Section 7 for how long we keep it.
  • Approximate location from your IP address, as a fallback and for fraud prevention.
  • Device and session information - device type and model, operating system, browser, screen characteristics, app version, IP address, and login timestamps.
  • Usage and activity data - how you use the App: screens viewed, modes toggled, Heys/Byes sent, profiles viewed, matches, messages sent (see 3.3 on what we derive from message content), sign-ups and feature interactions. Each activity record may include the coordinates from which it occurred.
  • Map activity - records of when you open the map, the area you viewed, and which other users were shown to you.
  • Push notification token - if you enable notifications, a device token used to deliver them.

3.3 Information we derive (please read this)

  • In-chat signal detection. When you send a message, an automated process scans the message text on our server, in the moment, using pattern-matching only to detect signals such as sharing a phone number or social handle, or arranging to meet or exchange contact details. We do not store the content of your message from this process, and we do not send your messages to any third party or AI service for this purpose. We store only a small set of yes/no flags (for example, "contact was shared") as activity events. These flags help us understand how connections progress and feed into the internal quality indicators described below.
  • Internal quality indicators. We compute internal scores about accounts (based on engagement, response patterns, and trust signals such as reports and blocks) to help us operate the service, prioritise safety review, and understand our community. These scores are internal only. They are never shown to you or to other users, and they do not affect who can see you, your position on the map, or who is shown to you. If we ever change this - for example, to use quality signals to improve recommendations - we will update this policy and tell you before we do.

4. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • create, secure, and manage your account (phone verification, sign-in);
  • show you people nearby and show you to nearby people, according to your mode(s) and preferences;
  • enable Heys, matches, and messaging between users;
  • operate the map and proximity features;
  • keep Hey safe - detect and act on fraud, abuse, spam, and violations of our Community Guidelines, and review reports;
  • provide support and respond to your requests;
  • send you service and notification messages you have enabled;
  • understand and improve how the App works;
  • comply with legal obligations.

Promotional / "hotspot" notifications(for example, "there are lots of people near you right now") are optional. We send them only if you have opted in, and you can turn them off at any time in your notification settings.

5. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information.

We share information in these limited situations:

5.1 Other users

Other users see your public profile - the information you put on your profile and your approximate distance/location on the map, according to your mode(s) and settings. They do not see your phone number, your exact coordinates, your email, or any internal scores.

5.2 Service providers (sub-processors)

We use trusted providers to run the App. They may process your information only to provide their service to us:

ProviderPurposeWhere
Amazon Web Services (RDS)Primary database - stores your account and profile dataGermany (EU)
Amazon Web Services (S3)Photo storageIreland (EU)
Amazon Web Services (SNS)Sending your SMS verification codeIreland (EU)
Amazon Web Services (SES)Sending email notificationsIreland (EU)
Google Firebase Cloud MessagingDelivering push notificationsUnited States
Google Maps / PlacesDisplaying the map and city searchUnited States
OpenStreetMap / NominatimConverting coordinates into a city/area nameEU/UK
SentryError monitoring (configured not to send personal data)EU

Some of these providers (Google) process limited data outside your region. Where that happens, we rely on the providers' standard safeguards for such transfers.

5.3 Legal and safety

We may disclose information where we are legally required to, to comply with a lawful request, or where necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Hey, our users, or the public.

5.4 Business transfers

If Hey is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change and any choices you may have.

6. Location data in detail

Because location is central to Hey, we want to be specific:

  • We collect precise device location, with your permission, to place you on the radar and show nearby people.
  • While the Hey map is open, we collect location continuously in the foreground so the map stays current. We do not collect location in the background.
  • We store your location history. This supports the live map, distance calculations, and safety review.
  • You control location access through your device settings. If you turn it off, core features of Hey will not work, because the App cannot show you people nearby without it.

7. How long we keep your information

We keep your information for as long as your account is active, and after that as described below.

DataRetention
Account and profile dataWhile your account is active; deleted on account deletion (see Section 9)
PhotosWhile your account is active; deleted on account deletion
Location historyRetained for up to 18 months, and in any case deleted on account deletion
MessagesRetained while the conversation exists; deleted on account deletion
Activity and usage logsRetained for up to 18 months, then deleted
SMS delivery logsRetained for a limited period for fraud prevention and troubleshooting, then deleted
Safety records (reports, blocks)May be retained beyond account deletion, in a minimised form, where needed to keep the community safe

8. Your rights

You can:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you;
  • Correct inaccurate information (you can edit most of it directly in the App);
  • Delete your account and associated data (see Section 9);
  • Export a copy of your data;
  • Object to or opt out of non-essential notifications.

To exercise any of these, use the in-app controls where available, or contact privacy@sayheynow.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

9. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from the App.

  • When you request deletion, your account enters a 30-day grace period during which it is deactivated and hidden, and you can cancel the deletion by signing back in.
  • After 30 days, we permanently delete your personal data, including your profile, photos, location history, and messages, and remove your authentication record.
  • Some limited information may be retained after deletion where the law requires it, or in minimised form where needed for safety (for example, a record that an account was the subject of a serious report). We keep only what is necessary and for no longer than necessary.

One thing to be aware of:when your account is deleted, your side of any conversation is removed. This may also remove the other person's copy of that conversation.

10. Security

We take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect your information, including:

  • encryption of data in transit;
  • access-controlled storage for your photos, so they are not publicly accessible;
  • secure, token-based authentication;
  • rate limiting and abuse protections;
  • internal logging of staff access to sensitive user data, and role-based limits on who can access what.

No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will act in accordance with our legal obligations, including notifying the relevant authority and affected users where required.

11. Children

Hey is strictly for adults. You must be 18 or older to use Hey. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 is using Hey, you can report them in the App, and we will act promptly. If we learn that we have collected information from someone under 18, we will delete it.

12. Automated processing

As described in Section 3.3, we run automated pattern-matching on messages to detect contact-exchange and meeting signals, and we compute internal quality indicators. These processes do not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you, and the internal quality indicators do not affect your visibility or who you are shown to. They support the operation and safety of the service.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a significant change, we will notify you in the App or by other appropriate means before it takes effect. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when the policy was last revised.
